Article: SunCruiser Ten Commandments
From Sun Cruiser Magazine

When we say Safe boating Is Our Business, we mean it. Having fun on the water is something everyone can enjoy and common sense ensures that those fun times end as great memories.

  1. Be a Green Boater. Carry off what you carry on. Use biodegradable cleaning agents and bilge absorbers.
  2. Make sure that your passengers know where all your safety equipment is located and that it is in proper working order.
  3. Watch your speed and wake when passing another boat or when close to shore.
  4. Refuel portable fuel tanks out of your boat. For regular fuel tanks everyone must get off the boat. Wipe up any spills.
  5. Learn the rules of the road. Avoid an accident even if you're in the right of way. Always help a fellow boater in distress.
  6. Store your government approved personal flotation devices where they are easily accessible.
  7. Listen to the marine weather forecasts before leaving shore and file a sail plan with someone on shore.
  8. Use up-to-date charts and know where you are so you can provide an accurate location of your vessel in case of an emergency .
  9. Learn boating the easy and sure way by taking one of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron boating courses.
  10. Know your boat. Respect its capacity and limitation. When towing a person or object post a lookout.
